Rationale for Use


  • Communications-focused

College courses often include verbal communication skills as integral to learning outcomes and are even more critical in post-university careers.

Yet, students are rarely given opportunities to express their grappling with course materials outside the traditional essay or presentation formats.

  • Authentic assessment

Podcast projects are an authentic assessment tool where students can showcase their voice and personality.

The applicants can show their ability to think critically and solve complex problems through rigorous analysis of the topics discussed in his podcast series. They also prove the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectivelysince most podcast needs at least two speakers.

  • Research-intensive

Students still need to do pre-production work (research), production work (choosing the words and expressions to use), and post-production work (synthesis of research materials and conclusion), which provides a relatively similar structure to a conventional essay.

  • The structure of each episode is clear, helping listeners follow each topic quickly.

  • Includes appropriate sources or quotes from secondary or primary research

  • The conclusion summarizes essential information

Delivery

  • Rehearsed, smooth delivery

  • Correct grammar is used during the podcast
